5 members enjoyed another Mystery New Plymouth walk with Barry Greenbrook. We started from Huatoki Tennis courts to ramble briefly along the Huatoki Stream, did a little walk on Glenpark Ave to cross into little gem, a stand of majestic Kauri Trees, then returned to the cars, about an hours walk. Then off to East End Surf Club where we walked the beach to Waiwhakaiho, around Lake Rotomanu, returning on an interesting link walkway which skirted Fitzroy Golf course back to the cars, a bit over and hour, around 11 kms. We finished with a great lunch at Stumble Inn. A great day out thanks Barry.

Huatoki & Te Henui bike ride - sunday 8th september

8/9/2024

Great ride today along the walkway, up the Huatoki stream, along the road for a bit and then down the Te Henui stream. Lots of variety in this ride with the boys taking a detour at one stage requiring a bit of throttle in the wet conditions.
Nice lunch at The Bach before the ride back to The Links.
Thanks from Rae to Kathryn, Marilyn, Sally, Michele (Aussie), Bevin, Alistair and Jim for making the trip.

Waitiri track & daffodil patch - 25th august 2024

28/8/2024

13 members met at Rawhitiroa School this morning to drive in convoy to the Omoana saddle. The goal was to walk the Waitiri Track to the daffodil patch. 4 mounted their e-bikes while the rest walked. The cyclists shot off, in the capable hands of Marilyn who knew the way, or so I thought. We soon saw them in the distance, the other side of a huge gully. We didn’t see them again for an hour. Jan turned back at the 5km point, the trampers and geographically challenged bikers had lunch at the old house site, and Jan and the bikers got to the vehicles at 2 pm. The walkers took another 50 minutes. A great day out on an overcast day with just one wee shower.

EAC club trip this last Sunday was a long overdue visit to the Pouakai Range where we visited Photographic Peak and Hump Hill. Although the weather put a dampner on the spectacular views that can be had our small group of 4 had a fantastic time!
Thanks to Kathryn and Andrea for leading the trip.

A successful tour of some lesser visited waterfalls this morning. We viewed the upper and lower Kaupokonui Falls, rediscovered the Konini Dell track, and had morning tea at Victoria Falls. We returned along the ridge track in lovely weather. Thanks to the crew for maintaining good humour on the gnarly bits.

Beach walk - sunday 14th july 2024

5 people joined me for a walk from Ohawe Beach to Waihi Beach in cool conditions to start with but a fantastic day, weather wise.  Low tide was at 9.27 am so we were walking by just after nine.  Great walking with not too many obstacles.  At Waihi, 5 carried on to the Fonterra out fall while I went up the hill and organised cars.  Met up with the group at Nowell’s lake.  Apparently it was a brisk walk so they weren’t caught out with incoming tide.  Lunch at Upside Down. Thanks all for making it a great morning.

kahui hut & beyond - Sunday 30th june 2024

2/7/2024

Three club members took part on Sundays mountain tramp - Kahui Hut & Beyond lead by Bruce Finer. The weather wasn’t stunning but fine. We started from the road end at the park boundary walking the Kahui track to Kahui Hut. From the hut we took the old ridge track which proved to be a bush bash in some places. Once we came out onto the tussock & moss slopes area we could see Turehu Hill 4,500’ which was our main objective to visit. We had lunch there, checked out the rock bivvy and with the weather closing in we made a rapid decent back down to the hut. Then it was back down to our starting point. A great area of the mountain seldom visited, thank you Bruce!

Ararata Ngawhini Bike ride sat 25th May 2024

26/5/2024

After a heavy shower of rain threatened to disrupt our 10am start at the clubrooms, the sky cleared a little and 8 riders headed off through town to break into the sunshine while heading up Ararata Road and we got a great view of the mountain and coastline before descending down Ngawhini and onto Turuturu Road where we rode through several new subdivisions and onto Upside Down cafe to enjoy lunch together. Joining Al were Donna B a new member, Jim & Marilyn, Wietze & Rae and Michelle all on ebikes and brave Michael on an analogue bike. Great to get outside on the best weather window on an otherwise  slightly miserable weekend.
